Chairman’s Pitch

Hi Folks,

I hope that you have all managed to stay safe and well over the past months and have managed to see through the latest lockdown. Hopefully we are slowly coming to the end of the impact the Coronavirus has had on our lives and our camping pastime.

Although all meets and including the Scottish Region Dinner Dance, have had to be cancelled so far this year, the District Association and Section committees across Scotland have been beavering away in the background. They have all organised and held their Unit Annual General Meetings for 2021. All have successfully navigated their way through virtual meetings to hold the AGM’s on-line thereby giving our Club members the opportunity to participate and keep abreast of Unit activities. All were able to form their committees for 2021/22. I welcome all the new and old committee members to their roles and hope that they have a successful and enjoyable season. The Scottish Region 2021 Annual General Meeting will also be held virtually. Details on how to register for a place at the AGM are on the website News page.

All the indications from the Scottish Government are that we are on track for the next easing of restrictions to go ahead as planned on the 26th April. This will enable camping to resume, albeit with some restrictions still in place, including the rules on indoor gathering. For a number of reasons, and in conjunction with the landowners at Bridge of Allan, we had to take the unfortunate decision to once again cancel the Scottish Region Meet which was due to open on April 27th.

However, on a more positive note the DA’s and Sections will have their Meets and Temporary Holiday Sites up and running from May or June. With a fair wind, most of your old favourites will go ahead along with some new venues. Please check the individual Unit websites for the most up to date information on where and when they are being held. Before travelling, please also confirm whether or not you need to book in advance.

Although we are all hoping that restrictions shall continue to ease further over the summer months, until the restrictions allow us, all of our meets and THS’s shall be run as campsites and not as social gatherings. Your stewards shall be operating them in accordance with the Covid guidance and restrictions in place at the time of the meet. As the Scottish Government intends to apply a Tier system across the country, please be aware that restrictions may vary slightly depending on where the meet or THS is being held. We ask that campers also respect and comply with the guidance which we are all asked to follow so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable camping experience. Please remember that our stewards are doing a difficult job in challenging times. They may not always have the answers to your questions or situations and issues which may arise during your stay. So please be patient while they do their best to help you enjoy your holiday.

I hope that you are looking forward to getting out and about and are able to support rallies which are being organised for us across the country.

Hopefully we’ll see you in a camping field sometime soon. Meantime best wishes and keep staying safe.

Bill Dewar

Scottish Region Chairman
